    Hampir semua finalis Indonesia Furniture Design Competition (IFDC) pertama dan kedua mengenal Prieyo Pratomo sebagai juri yang paling banyak bertanya. Sebagian di antara mereka menyebutnya sebagai juri yang bertanya secara detil dan tak mudah terpuaskan dengan jawaban ala kadarnya. Namun di balik kerewelannya, desainer interior senior yang aktif dalam kepengurusan Asosiasi Industri Mebel dan Kerajinan Indonesia (Asmindo) dan menjadi pengajar di sejumlah perguruan tinggi cukup fair dan tegas dalam membuat keputusan, terutama saat IFDC pertama digelar.

    Sejak tahun 1995 menyenggelarakan pameran bertaraf internasional Managing Director Malaysia International Furniture Fair (MIFF) Dato’ DR. Tan Chin Huat menyebutkan buyer yang datang pun sudah terseleksi. “Mereka yang datang tak lagi berorientasi pada harga murah”. “Buyer yang datang kemari sudah pasti berbeda dengan yang datang ke pameran serupa di Singapura,” tambahnya. Menurutnya, saat ini MIFF didatangi sekitar 7000 buyer dari 140 negara.

    Yang menjadi keprihatinan Japar Saragih, Koordinator Asmindo Certification Care (ACC), adalah begitu kecilnya minat perusahaan mebel di Indonesia untuk memiliki sertifikasi. Padahal kepemilikannya sudah amat mendesak, apalagi jika dikaitkan dengan berlakunya Lacey Act di bulan Oktober nanti “Bisa-bisa bablas kita”. Di matanya, kepemilikan itu sebaiknya dipandang marketing tools dalam menembus pasar hijau internasional. Dengan demikian, jangkauan pemasaran perusahaan-perusahaan mebel Indonesia bisa memasuki ke segmen eksklusif ini dengan cepat.
